Alla Levushkina – The oldest practicing surgeon in the world with no fatalities

An active surgeon at the age of 90, Alla Ilyinichna Levushkina is the world’s oldest surgeon. She has been working as a doctor for the past 68 years and has conducted over 10,000 surgeries with no fatalities so far.

A resident of Ryzan, Russia, Alla never married or had any children, as she committed her entire life to saving the lives of patients. She had read a novel about doctors during her adolescent days, which inspired her to choose the path of medicine. Despite high competition and very few women doctors in the country, Alls studied hard and pursued medicine from the Moscow Medical Institute. For the first 30 years of her career, Alla worked in the air medical services, where she would treat patients living in remote parts of the country. She eventually ended up as a doctor in Ryzan, her hometown. When asked about her plans for retirement, she told the Mirror, “It’s not a profession, it’s a way of life… Why else would the surgeon live, if not to work?” For her unmatched commitment to work, Alla has also received the award for the best doctor in Russia. The 90-year-old meets her patients in a clinic between eight and 11 every morning, followed by conducting surgeries through the rest of the day and meeting other patients. Over the past 68 years, she has conducted over 10,000 surgeries with zero fatalities, reports Daily Mail. At home, Alla takes care of her specially-abled nephew and eight cats and believes in living life to the fullest. When asked about her secret to a long and healthy life, she told the Mirror, “I eat everything, laugh and cry a lot.
